But the best part for me was that it was the first year Bo actually got in to the whole holiday and got excited about some old family traditions as well as some new ones of our own. (Sam on the other hand slept through dinner)
It all started with Bo, Grandma and I making placemats the week before with potato stamps and watercolors. Bo did a great job. He even told us what he wanted each one to say.
Happy Pumpkin Day
Happy Football Day and Thanksgiving Day
Happy Party Day
They turned out so cute I went and had them laminated. Then there was a total warm and fuzzy moment for me - the passing on of my favorite Thanksgiving Day job from growing up . . . putting the marshmallows on the sweet potatoes.I'm not exactly sure how many ended up being eaten as opposed to being put on the potatoes, but they turned out great in the end.
And then there was the feast of all feasts:
2 Fried Turkeys (thank you Wes & Grandpa)
Honey Baked Spiral Ham
Dressing
Gravy
Sweet Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole
Cranberry Jello Salad
Rolls
And we can't forget the pies. Apple, Cherry, and Pumpkin.
Overall it was a great day that we were not only able to share with Grandma and Grandpa this year, but our friends Ty & Tru as well. We are thankful to have such great family and friends all around us. We can't ask for much more than that.
