Our New Roommates

I have had a few roommates in the past . . .

Kelly from Lodgepole-Freshman year with the Chip and Dales and verbatim Days of Our Lives recaps in between the meticulous dorm room cleanings in place of test preparation

Nicole from Ontario-Sophomore & Junior year in Melrose Place with hot tea and creamer, bagels, lots of gymnastics, annoying loud light switch, and endless boyfriends with babies sleeping on the couch

Rachael, Mindy & Gina-Senior year home hell with stolen toilet paper, fights over food, caddy bitchiness and lots of lies

. . . but never any as great as the ones we have now.

Wes' parents moved in with us about a month ago and it is absolutely wonderful having them here. They decided they wanted to be near their grandkids and finally gave up on us moving back there so they packed up their car and drove all the way from Iowa (most of it in snow, poor guys) to come live with us.

Their plan is to try it out until Spring and then decide if this is where they really want to hang their hat (and coat, and gloves, and scarves, and . . . Ok, you get the picture).

Assuming the winter isn't too overly annoying, they will head back home, pack up all their things, sell their house and move up here for good.

But in the mean time, they are settling in and remembering all too well what a house full of screaming kids is like with mountains of laundry, endless cleaning, neglected home projects, early kid wakings and horribly stinky dirty diapers while the rest of us (ahem, me) are loving the extra help around the house, the ability to hand a kid off when needed, and the chance to go to the gym alone. (Oh the gym. How I have missed you so.)

So goodbye roommate weirdness of the past. Hello roommate luxury of now.

Sam's Ouwie

Sam had his first emergency room visit last month while Opa was here. Poor thing got his ring finger closed in the hinge side of our front door. It sliced it open on the palm side and bled and bled and bled. I still can't believe that a little finger can bleed that much but it did and he was hysterical.

Turns out he not only gouged it really good but cracked the bone as well. Sniff Sniff His first broken bone. Thank goodness for young healing. With a little surgical glue and a week of buddy taping his fingers together, he seems good as new (if you ignore the dead purple fingernail he has now, that is).

Opa's Visit

Opa's letter he sent to the boys about his visit here sums up the week better than I ever could.
Dear Bo, Sam, and Max,

Thank you very much for letting me come and stay with you recently. I
had a lot of fun and I hope you did too. Let's see . . . what are some of
the fun things I remember?

1. Seeing Max for the first time
2. Playing in the back yard with Bo and Sam on the swing and
slide
3. Building train tracks and playing trains with Bo
4. Following Bo with Sam as Bo mows the yard so so fast and then rolls and
rolls and rolls
5. Kicking soccer balls with Bo & Sam
6. Feeding Max a bottle
7. Helping Sam play with stickers from Aunt Tracy and Uncle Tom
8. Reading books with Sam
9. Watching Bo put together puzzles that Opa brought to him
10. Seeing where Bo goes to school
11. Watching the Husker game with Bo and Dad
12. Playing with Sam in his room
13. Sleeping with Max
14. WAtching Bo and Sam crash cars, planes, trucks and tractors down
the slide and into the auto transporter - - KAPOW!

You are bigger and smarter each time I see you. I wish I could see
you more often. Please tell your mom and dad that I enjoyed visiting with
them also.

Love, Opa
Thanks Opa. The boys are extremely lucky to have a grandpa who is such a good sport, he doesn't mind being the base of a pillow/race track tower.

We love you and can't wait to see you again soon.

Proud Wife

I have to give my hubby props for all he has accomplished.

In less than 3 years he has gone from being a medevac pilot in the Army to owning his own real estate brokerage. It has been quite the haul and the hours tremendous but the goal never out of sight.

I'm so proud of you, Wes. I know it hasn't been easy and the road is still long, but you will get there. I have no doubt.
